Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire

Considered contraband throughout the globe by various oppressive governing bodies, this text is assigned to my students as a roadmap in understanding how psychological warfare is designed to bring forth behavior patterns that keep individuals in cycles of despair. Paulo identifies for us, that, in order to break these patterns, the oppressed must recognize when they have become the oppressor and make conscious daily decisions to return back to their humble state and give back via education.

The Untethered Soul: The Journey Beyond Yourself by Michael Singer

Given there is not one Being responsible for humanity’s ongoing state of anguish, this text is my go-to for my AMFT/ACSW/APCC interns. When we as souls are incapable of resolving profoundly horrific tragedies, life can feel like a devastating burden. Michael offers insight for us here by outlining how to go within the Self in order to create a state of inner-peace, rather than, endlessly searching for peace elsewhere.
